Looking for a Goldeneye

A rare visit to Rodley Nature Reserve on Saturday in search of a Goldeneye, a bird I have only recorded the once at Eccup, there was some debate to weather the brown dot on the image was actually a Goldeneye at the time !

Pam @ Pam's place  had been on the Wednesday and seen 9, sadly I didn't get to see them, there had been two female on the lagoon that morning .
I did get to watch a large flock of Linnets (we think) flying round the field,

Oystercatcher, Tufted duck, Kestrel, Cormorant, Pochard and Reed Bunting were ticked of my year list.

While I was there I met and had a good chat with a man called Tony, living not far from me. He goes to the local Camera club. Talked me into going so I will let you know what it was like. Turns out Tony is one of the top photographers and birder in this area !

33 species recorded

  2. Love the tree of birds. Well all the bird photos really! I could do with seeing some interesting birds as there doesn't seem to be anything but collared doves coming to my garden at the moment! x

    1. Thanks Julie, good time to get out as the birds are getting more active , and no leaves on the trees yet which helps 😁

  3. Beautiful photos Amanda! You must visit Northumberland and you will soon find you a Goldeneye. I saw quite a few on the coast just north of Low Newton by the Sea last month. I was going to do a post with them this week but broke my shoulder (ugh) so I'm going to do a different post with photos I've already sorted. Mind you, they weren't great as they were with a bunch of Eiders a little too far out for my camera.

  4. An interesting post with some lovely photos - love the first picture in particular :) You saw some great birds - a shame about the Goldeneye (don't get many round here which is a shame as they are such lovely birds). Hope you enjoyed the camera club meeting.

    1. Thanks RR, it was nice to see the linnets flying round, not seen that many before. Must try and go more here this year, only open three days which makes it a little difficult. Will try again for the Goldeneye.

  9. What a great selection, Amanda. And such lovely photos, too. We so rarely see Greenfinches here these days... Probably that virus of recent years, but I hope they will return to our garden.
