Waxwings and Redwings best birds for year end

YAY for Twitter....

On Tuesday there had been a report that a few Waxwings had been spotted at Guiseley Morrisons, West Yorkshire. So Thursday I popped  down, spotted the birds straight away and was pleased to see Redwing feeding as well. Normally a very skittish bird.
Both birds were feeding on the  Berries not bothered to much by the traffic or people , not one person looked up to see the birds even with me stood there with a camera !!
There was about 30 of each, but reports today show the numbers increasing to about 70. All the local birders are so happy....

Waxwing

Redwing

There is still a chance I might get them in my garden like in 2013

😀HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL

  4. Photos are stunning Amanda - so excited for you :) Lovely to see both Waxwings and Redwings together. As you say thank goodness for Twitter :)))) Do hope they visit your garden - must be every birder's dream garden tick :) It has always astonished me how people are so blinkered and don't look at the natural world around them :( Wishing you a very happy and healthy 2017 filled with special wildlife moments.

Will be off later to check the reported waxwing sightings locally :) Will let you know if I am lucky :)

  5. Beautiful photos Amanda! Amazing how many berries you still have as they all disappeared where I live in the cold spell last month. I might string some fruit up for them.

  6. Beautiful photos. I think a few of the waxwings made it over this side of the Pennines too as I'm sure I saw something in the papers. Would love to have seen them myself. Have a wonderful 2017, Amanda. xx

  7. As everyone says those photos are excellent, the Redwing in particular is such a tricky bird to get close enough. Well done.

  8. Wow, I'm so envious about the waxwings as I've never seen one. They don't visit these parts either! What fantastic photos. It's really cold here now so I was not surprised to see Redwings and now Fieldfares here, over in my orchard where there are still apples. Only seen Redwings during very cold winters so that isn't good news, hope it doesn't stay this cold for too long! Twitter is very good for bird sightings in England. Happy New Year! xx

  14. Wonderful photos of the waxwings and redwings. What great sightings. I must try and discover if there are any waxwings near me. I'm not sure I'd get any in the garden - there don't seem to be any berries left. I hope to see some fieldfares and redwings, though.Last year they were rooting around in the ground. Have a lovely 2017!

  15. Simply beautiful photos of surely one of our most colourful winter visitors, 2016/2017 is certainly going to go down as one of the best ever 'Waxwing Winters' isn't it :-) Superb pictures of the Redwings too, these handsome winter thrushes have to be one of my personal favourite birds, and their arrival every year is always greeted with joy by me.

Hope you are well and a belated Happy New Year :-)

PS. Thanks for dropping by my new website the other day, much appreciated.

  17. These are absolutely stunning, Amanda! And what good light. We had a couple of sunny days in early January, but it has been mainly grey and cloudy, sometimes very dark. So impressed with your photos - and the general look of your blog! Happy new year!
