Quietly going for a walk .....

July has not been to kind weather wise, overcast, windy and the odd day of warm sunshine, still managed to get out a bit more this week.
But ended up with a real bag of mixed photos from Little Owls to little moths.

If you were not aware it is The Big Butterfly count ,
running from the 17th July-9th August,
so there is still plenty of time to take part if the sun comes out !
Staying close to home I have been wandering the fields on Yeadon Banks.

 Foxgloves and Common Ragwort

Young Mistle Thrush
Straw Dot (Rivula sericealis)
 Antler Moth (Cerapteryx graminis)
Little Owl
The moth trap has just been out once this week due to the rain, but while it has been fine I have been just putting the light out to see what about.

Peppered Moth
Brimstone Moth
Phoenix Moth
Ghost Moth,
Skipper
Hope you have enjoyed some of my photos from my quiet walks around home..

Where are you walking this week ?

  1. Love those first few photos of the foxgloves and ragwort - so colourful. Great to see the Little Owl too - I haven't seen one for ages.

Great selection of moths - especially the Ghost Moth (I have never trapped one of those here). Hope the weather improves soon so you can put the moth trap out more - very cloudy and rainy here today although its now brightening up!

    1. Thanks RR, the weather has been so disappointing for trapping, very windy and cold, sounds like Mandy has done very well though, so pleased for her.
Like to catch a male GH moth as they are lovely too

  2. I have to admit, I normally find moths a bit dull, BUT your photos have changed my mind. It's amazing the colour you get and your photos are beautiful. Earlier this month at Ranger club, my son found a moth(I think it's a moth!!), if I get chance I'll blog the photos to see if you can identify it. Sarah

  5. Surprised to read that the weather has been so poor over your way as so far it has been a warmer and drier than average month here in East Yorks, though it hasn't been particularly sunny I suppose.

Some nice moths again, Peppered Moths are always welcome aren't they, whilst the Phoenix & Ghost Moth were wonderful to see, two species I have never recorded.

Love the Little Owl and the beautiful foxgloves :-)

    Kindest regards :-)

    1. Thanks David, think it has been the wind and cool days, looking like rain rather than raining. Only 16 moths in moth trap last night all seen before :(
A family of Little Owls has been living up on Yeadon banks now for years so all ways nice to see it.
      Have a lovely weekend...

  7. What an amazing set of pictures Amanda. It's amazing what we can find when we really look. I'd love to be out and about but the miserable weather is stopping us from enjoying summer.
I am hoping for some better weather next two weeks as I'm on leave and hope to do the count when I have more time on my hands.

  13. I never knew moths were so colourful until you started showing us so many - I have a newfound appreciation. My favourite photo is the Little owl though. I remember meeting a man while out birdwatching with my Dad when I was school age who said he had seen a little 'ell'. 'I've not heard of one of those' said I followed by something worthy of a comedy sketch in which I questioned him on the 'ell'. It was only after we parted company that my Dad burst out laughing and told me it was an owl! Red face all round. x

I love the owl peering down it's great.

The weather at the moment is not too good for walking - perhaps it will clear soon. Definitely good weather for ducks as my dear mum used to say.

    Have a a good weekend

    All the best Jan

  18. Awe that thrush is beautiful Amanda. And you got an owl too! Well done on those, great photos too. I was interested to see that ghost moth. I assume that's a female 'cos I had what I think was a male and it was all white... and stunning too ;-)
